UIA at COP15 - Sustainable by Design

The 5th day of the UIA Open Forum Strategies-Series dedicated to“Vernacular & Low-Cost Architecture” was a real highlight. After the Lectures from “Global Award for Sustainable Architecture”-Founder Jana Revedin about “Innovation and transmission” and “Tegnestuen Vandkusten”-Partner Søren Nielsen on “Industrial Systems and Architectural concepts”, Aga Khan Award-Winner Anna Heringer spoke “On Sustaining Beauty - local solutions for global challenges”. In addition to the Lectures two short films about the Global Awards Laureates Andrew Frear/ Rural Studios and Alejandro Aravena were presented. Completed was the evening with a discussion moderated by Jana Revedin. Participants were besides the lecturers Marie-Hélène Contal, Vice-director of the French Institute of Architecture, and members of the UIA Region I Council as Antonio Riverso, Mauro Latini and UIA Vice-president Albert Dubler.

As a conclusion of the strategies, topics and projects that were discussed during the whole weak, this last evening underlined and stressed, that a holistic approach in Architecture named “Sustainable by Design” is not only meaningful and necessary to contribute to our future social, cultural, economical and ecological challenges. It can also be an inspiring and fascinating contribution to the development of architecture as a discipline.
